If this house is a rockin'...

This just in from Web Watch (to register for Web Watch, visit this link)...

"The Pomona City Council made several changes to an ordinance that deals with loud and disturbing parties and music. These changes became effective on December 17, 2008. The Pomona Police Department will be enforcing these changes and will be issuing a citation to persons responsible for the loud and disturbing party. Until now, residents could host loud parties just about as often as they wanted with little or no consequence, other than angry neighbors. The City of Pomona recognizes these unsafe parties as a threat to the public peace, health, safety, and general welfare of the city.

"Music or any other type of disturbance that's plainly audible more than 50 feet from its source, between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am, will be a violation. A disturbance between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 pm that's plainly audible from 150 feet will also be a violation. The person responsible for the party can expect to be issued a citation for a violation of this noise ordinance. The violation will be filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

"These loud party and music calls are more prevalent on Friday and Saturday nights and continue into the early morning hours. The Police Department receives several calls-for-service to these disturbing parties, and this becomes a drain on the Pomona Police Department's resources. Other violations committed by partygoers, and associated with these loud parties are; littering of alcohol containers, urinating in public, parking violations, physical altercations, public intoxication, and drunk driving. The City of Pomona would like to urge anyone planning a large party to seek a safe and suitable venue. Please keep your neighbors in mind before you have a large party at your home.

  1. i wish notices would be sent out to inform people of the new ordinance. but that may not be a viable feat

  2. The city could be planning on including a notice in the water bill, but I wonder how many of these noise complaints might be originating from repeat violators.

Is there a monetary penalty with this citation?

  3. Yes, there is a monetary penalty, finally. This also applies to a vehicle on the street or driveway at any time during the day blasting their stereos for more than a few minutes. Noise pollution is just that... and now it comes with a price. Please, everyone let's put a stop to these loud obnoxious parties and stop the city from becoming another Huntington Park or South Gate.

  4. Wow, if this applies to cars on the streets, some of the visitors to Garfield Park will be in for a surprise when they park their cars, blast the tunes, then chill out in the shady spots of the park.

  5. Does this also apply to that ice cream truck that blasts his music every night around 8:00pm? I just moved to this city and its driving me up the wall.

  6. What do you do about screaming, yelling, children in the yard between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.? Slamming metal gate on house door that can be heard clearly across the street by a nurse trying to sleep during the day.

  7. ha, those kids are up yelling and slamming doors till midnight

  8. the ice cream trucks and "street vendors" are in clear violation. Yelling about TAMALES and honking their loud horns that awaken newborn babies!!!

  9. It took me 30 minutes to reach the authority (Pomona, Chino Hills) when I called to report Noise after being held and transferred from lines to lines. Finally, they said that Police would be there... and you know what? I patiently waited for one and a half hour to watch over the street (where the noise comes from)... And No Police officer ever came!

    1. you are right!! my neighbor is blasting their music like a night club. I called twice and I waited...it's about an hour and 25 min...no police is there yet to shut down their music. Why am I paying taxes to the police department that can't even do a simple job. Pomona PD rating: 1

  12. Will people be cited if they play loud music constantly? I think they should be cited as a way to motivate them to stop playing loud music and so police doesn't have to waste their time on these people.

  13. If the city would fine these people then the would get more money to fix the city and those that play the music would stop.

  14. I think people should just calm down. People should be able to have parties and celebrations at their home. Its a different story when its every weekend. But if you are doin it as once a year I dont see the problem. Some people are just too sensitive.

  22. It would be nice if there were a cap on loud construction noise. I would much rather listen to a noisy party than the neighbors banging on my rood and wall the past few weeks. I'm about to lose my sanity.

  24. What about excessive dog barking? Neighbors have alot of dogs seems it could be a puppy mill and we hear puppies crying and older dogs fighting and growling for food. But they have 1 large dog that barks all the time, even at the owner. Dog barks all day and night neighbirs are very inconsiderate. We have talked to them, called IVHS no help there what can we do? Is there a law for this problem?

  25. Beware of buying in Pomona on westmont ave near Phillips drive.
These inconsiderate people around here play music and yell and shout until all hours of the morning almost every weekend and sometimes even during the week.
Police come,it stops for a while and then starts back up again. Hopefully one day they can enforce their own noise ordinance laws.
Maybe if the landlords were given citations for the noise it would stop.
I wish I would have done more research before buying in this area.It is like the ghetto around here and it is tolerated by law enforcement.
I hope this post helps buyers think twice about buying in this area.

  26. I have a neighbor that lives in a house and his backyard is at my bedroom window. He feels because he owns his house and I'm in a apartment I have no right to complain about his noise. Corner of Falcon & Fuego. Between 8am and 10am every morning this man is up and loud! Yelling and playing his music loud. I work at night and try to sleep in. Who can with his loud behind. I've called the police a couple of times don't know what happened! What is my recourse?

  27. Ready to call in, 11:24 PM and this large party is LOUD!
10 PM is the limit for this??

  28. Keep calling the police to report the loud music/noise.There are noise ordinances in this city.
Call EVERY SINGLE time your peace is being disturbed.
I think if citations would start being handed out people would think twice about being obnoxious neighbors with all their noise.

  29. We have a Buddhists compound in the back of 11th st exactly where the house that was shot up and killed little Jonah. They play everyday and way past 10. Never seem anything being done. Maybe people are afraid because maybe the people complained that loved in that house and they had the person shoot up the house to get what they want. Just saying

    ReplyDelete
  30. People complained about noise and someone got shot?
I think there are probably other reasons houses and people in pomona are getting shot at.

  31. Reply for all. After so many years, we were able to buy a home. Our mistake was to buy one near the westmont cul de sac. It is a horrible noisy environment. Music is played so loud every weekend by some inconsiderate souls that don't care about anyone except their own miserable selves. And I suppose the PD doesn't care either.Hopefully someone will come up with a solution to this inconsiderate problem soon.

    ReplyDelete
  32. To the above poster .If you need the addresses on westmont cul de sac post here again.
There are 2 houses I have been reporting for the same problem for 1 year since I bought this house nearby.
Westmont cul de sac is the worst. My husband tried to ask them to lower their music and the man almost climbed our fence to come and fight.
Horrid neighbors make horrible neighbor HOODS.

  33. The westmont area of Pomona is the worst place to live.
Gunshots, fireworks, people yelling and screaming and partying every weekend until the early morning hours for all to see and hear.
There are parties with people overflowing onto the street on Wright with drinks in hand.
Blasting music every weekend that can be heard 5 blocks away.
Men with backpacks on BMX bikes roaming the area at 5 am up to no good.
    Homeless people wandering around mission.
    Trash everywhere.
Speed racers going 80mph on residential streets.
People setting up restaurants in their front yards.

The worst part about all of this is that the police dept.does absolutely nothing about all of this mess.
Good luck if you buy around there.
