Missing Pooch

The following announcement came across Web Watch yesterday:

**MISSING DOG**

Two females walked into the victim's front yard where the dog was playing with the victim's children. Supsect #1, who is described as a Hispanic female, 5'3", 150 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair, 30-40 years old,

picked up the dog and walked up to a vehicle that was parked to the front of the residence. Suspect #2, who is described as a White female, 5-6", 160 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair, got into the driver's seat of the

vehicle and drove away.

Witnesses were able to get the license number and description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle is a 2006 Chrysler 300, black with tinted windows, license number 5SIG581. Attempts were made to contact the

According to the crime map...

Every so often I stop by the crime maps maintained by the city. Usually, the maps show visualization of the past seven days of crime in the city. However, according to the crime map, there's been absolutely zero crime in the city over the past seven days.

Sure, I'd like to believe this is the case. But for some reason I suspect the absence of snazzy little icons representing everything from graffiti to homicides has more to do with process rather than data.

Does anyone know where the data are? Or, shall we start paying tribute to the goddess who oversees our fair city for bringing a wave of calm? How long has the map been down? Or I am just map-challenged and can't figure out how to work the darn thing? (Admittedly, the interface has changed a couple times and it isn't the easiest tool to use -- availability of data does not equate to accessibility of data in this case.)

Misleading Mailers Offer Lower Property Taxes For Homeowners

Los Angeles County Assessor Rick Auerbach and County Consumer Affairs Director Pastor Herrera, Jr. recently warned homeowners to be wary of solicitations from private companies offering to file property assessment reduction forms for a hefty fee to pay for a review by the Assessor’s Department for free."We are again receiving calls from homeowners who have been sent these deceptive mailers, many of which could be mistaken for government notices and mislead property owners into thinking they must pay at least $100 to apply for a review of their assessed value,” Auerbach said. “Because of the real estate market downturn, however, my office will begin reviewing nearly 500,000 residential properties for their 2009 assessed values.

If this house is a rockin'...

This just in from Web Watch (to register for Web Watch, visit this link)...

"The Pomona City Council made several changes to an ordinance that deals with loud and disturbing parties and music. These changes became effective on December 17, 2008. The Pomona Police Department will be enforcing these changes and will be issuing a citation to persons responsible for the loud and disturbing party. Until now, residents could host loud parties just about as often as they wanted with little or no consequence, other than angry neighbors. The City of Pomona recognizes these unsafe parties as a threat to the public peace, health, safety, and general welfare of the city.

"Music or any other type of disturbance that's plainly audible more than 50 feet from its source, between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am, will be a violation. A disturbance between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 pm that's plainly audible from 150 feet will also be a violation. The person responsible for the party can expect to be issued a citation for a violation of this noise ordinance. The violation will be filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

"These loud party and music calls are more prevalent on Friday and Saturday nights and continue into the early morning hours. The Police Department receives several calls-for-service to these disturbing parties, and this becomes a drain on the Pomona Police Department's resources. Other violations committed by partygoers, and associated with these loud parties are; littering of alcohol containers, urinating in public, parking violations, physical altercations, public intoxication, and drunk driving. The City of Pomona would like to urge anyone planning a large party to seek a safe and suitable venue. Please keep your neighbors in mind before you have a large party at your home.
